Fished the Port Lavaca Pier on the 27th of Oct 2009. Started at about 12:45 am on an out going tide. The Saltwater Fisherman that hails from Port Lavaca predicted the incoming tide about 2:30 am or so, of course the deviation time to get the true time, but I didn't do the math. I knew I was there before the slack time when the incoming tide is neither incoming or outgoing. The weather was little on the cool side with the wind blowing out of the north. Lots of school trout hitting shrimp on the surface. Below the school trout were some huge trout. The huge trout are very picky about their food supply and didn't hit the baits that I was using. I mainly used the pink colored Brown lure. I tried the new mirrolures about 1-1/2 in length, red head and white body, red black and silver body and a greenish black back with a tan body. The only one that worked well was the red back with white body...(the one I didn't have in my tackle box). But I had plenty of hits and landed a whole lot of small trout (on my Brown lure) which were sent back into the bay to allow them to get bigger. In all I had lots of fun and when I left the pier around 4:30 am I was ready to get some good ole sleep. Give the pier a try.
